How to Pronunciation (Overview) EP.1

In this lesson, we will focus on pronunciation in the English language. Good English pronunciation is very important for good communication.
Pronunciation is the way in which a word or letter is said, or said correctly, or the way in which a language is spoken. If you do not have clear English pronunciation, other people may not understand what you are saying.
Most English words are made up of different syllables. A syllable is a unit of sound. Good pronunciation is also understanding intonation (the rise and fall of the voice) and stress (some sounds in words and some words in sentences are louder or clearer than others).
The pronunciation of most English words can be divided into three different types of sounds: consonant blend, vowel, and word ending sounds.

1. Consonant Blend Sounds

There are 21 consonants (b, c, d, f, g, h, etc…) in the English language. A consonant blend (also called consonant clusters) sound is made when two or three consonant letters are put together to make a distinct consonant sound.

2. Vowel Sounds      (short and long)

3. Word Ending Sounds

A word ending sound is made when a suffix is placed at the end of the word such as –s, -es, -ed, -ing, etc … All suffixes in English are added to the end of verbs, nouns, adjectives, and adverbs.
